What I'm Geeking Out About This Week - 04/17/15

Geek-and-proud

Good to see you! This is my week in geek!

Here's what is going on in my world:

Netflix's newest original series is an unprecedented collaboration with Marvel Studios, which continues to explore the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The focus on a smaller story, centered around Hell's Kitchen in New York City and the man trying to save it, pays off very well. Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil) is just starting out in this first season as he is pitted against Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin). I'm almost done with the first season and it is wonderful, brutal, real, and fun. I can't wait to see how it ends and I am now even more excited for the rest of the Marvel/Netflix series to come in the near future.

I've been watching each of the weekly episodes so far of this season on Yahoo Screen, and I have been very happy with it. The show's new home on Yahoo and the freedom it seems to have given them has allowed for them to go into full on weird territory and it is great. The show feels fresh and new while still holding on to the core parts about what has made it so awesome for the past few years. I look forward to watching the rest of the episodes as they come out!

Parks and Recreation is one of my favorite comedies of all time. It finished it's seven season run recently and I have begun to rewatch the show from the beginning if I just want to have something on that I know I'll enjoy. I find funny nods to something that pays off later, appreciate the start of running gags, and just appreciate the special qualities of the series more as I watch it all again. I know I've found a cherished show or movie when I can watch it multiple times and enjoy it just as much (or more) each time.

Thanks for stopping by!

Greetings! Here's what is going on in my world this week:

** EDIT: Condolences to the family of Leonard Nimoy, who passed away today at the age of 83. You will be missed.

  • Parks and Recreation Series Finale

I watched the finale the day after it aired with my partner (we wanted to watch together) and I was very pleased with how they sent off the series. While it is really hard to ever live up to the high expectations of a series finale, Parks and Recreation definitely went out on top. This entire final season was awesome and should serve as a textbook for other sitcom finales. I foresee this show being one I'll go back to and watch again and again. It cements itself as a classic show that will surely stand the test of time. Thanks for the memories, Parks and Recreation!

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron

Some new little tidbits about the film came out from unexpected places. The official movie poster for Age of Ultron came out, and some awesome nerds discovered some interesting cast listings, such as Anthony Mackie, Idris Elba, and Hayley Atwell (some having been rumored, others thought not to be in the film). I'm particularly excited for Anthony Mackie to be featured in the film in some capacity since I know he is passionate about the role of the Falcon. All of them are awesome actors with equally awesome characters so I'm glad they're all in the movie (they all also add some diversity to the film). We've also gotten some better looks at Vision recently, which also make me happy. I can't wait for this movie!!!

  • House of Cards Season 3

I've been looking forward to this since the end of last season. This Netflix exclusive series is an amazing dramatic political thriller led by the incomparable Kevin Spacey. Having Frank Underwood as the President of the United States only makes the stakes higher and the intrigue more deep. I'm intrigued to see what he does with his new power or if it stifles him and he loses everything he worked so hard to obtain. I'm not sure when I'll get to watch all the episodes so I'll have to do my best to avoid any spoilers! Definitely check out seasons 1 & 2 on Netflix if you haven't already. They're awesome television!

Thanks for stopping by!

What I'm Geeking Out About This Week - 06/05/14

Salutations! Here's what I'm geeking out this (busy) week!

If you love Parks & Recreation (which you all should, it's great), you'll love this forever looping GIF. I wasted a solid few minutes on it. You're welcome.

I've been binged on a few episodes of this great podcast lately during my string of travels. It has comedians Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas (all of whom you may know from the many things they have done, much of it together) chatting about movies that are so bad they're good. I've listening to episodes ranging from Green Lantern to Battlefield Earth, Fast Five to Superman III, and of course, the competitive arm-wrestling classic, Over the Top. It's a lot of fun and they have some great guests on to help with the hilarity, so definitely check it out if you're looking for a new podcast and love movies.

So this is another movie centric thing I'm into (obviously I love movies). This YouTube channel has been around for several years but it has really hit its stride with all of its great, original segments, and their beloved Honest Trailers. I always find myself engaged with their content so I wanted to give them a shout out and encourage you to check out their channel.

Thanks for stopping by! Have an awesome weekend!
