Avoid Distractions More Effectively When You're Studying
In the busy, internet-connected world we are living in right now, it is all too easy to get distracted. This is not such a big problem when you have plenty of free time to go down those rabbit holes and hang out with friends, but when you need to focus on your studies, it is far from ideal.
Thankfully, there are lots of strategies you can use to avoid even the most persistent distractions when you are studying, including the following:
Turn off your phone
Yes, it’s the most obvious solution, but also the most painful for a lot of us. So many of us are addicted to our phones that turning them off for any length of time can be tough, if you find this hard to do, then try leaving your phone at home and heading to the library instead. If you don’t have your phone on you, you can’t turn it back on and keep checking it every five minutes, after all.
Make a to-do list
Making a physical to-do list in a paper notebook will help you to focus on the tasks you need to get through each day, and help to stop you from getting distracted by social media. Whether you are doing nremt test prep or studying for your MBA in business education, you will have a lot of different topics to go through, Write each one down in bullet point form and assign a specific time for studying each. You’ll be less likely to slack off when every second is accounted for.
Use noise-canceling headphones
If you are studying in a dorm or the local coffee shop, where it is likely to get a bit noisy, then putting on noise-canceling headphones is a great way to prevent you from getting distracted by people's chatter. Maybe even play some soft baroque music - it has been shown to aid studying!
Clean your space
Something else that we often don’t think about, but which can distract us more than you might think, is a messy cluttered desk or study space. So, if you want to be able to focus on your studies, it makes sense to clear your space. Get rid of anything that does not need to be in it, and organize the rest so the room is as clear and clutter-free as possible; your mind will follow suit.
Learn how to decline offers
You will probably have a lot of people asking you for your attention when you need to study, especially if you are in college where the social life is out of this world. You need to get comfortable with turning down offers and declining invites. The more comfortable you are with doing so, the easier it will be.
Of curse, if you decline every invitation, you will quickly burn out, so try to pick and choose the events that are most important to you and schedule them in to keep you motivated.
Good luck with your studies. Without all those constant distractions, you’re sure to smash it!
