Movie Review Monday: Bo Burnham - Make Happy
Welcome to another edition of Movie Review Monday!
This week's film is the latest standup comedy special from Bo Burnham, Make Happy, which is featured exclusively on Netflix.
If you're a fan of Bo Burnham, this special is a continuation of his unique comedic style. You can get more of his standup in another special on Netflix, what. He moves quickly through his material, all of it wildly original and hilarious. He has always incorporated music into his sets, and in this special, does a lot of other audio/visual accompaniments. This special also has a lot of good messages in it too. It isn't just silly and smart, it has a point and a purpose. Typically, Burnham has been witty and goofy, which is great, but this set has something a little more personal it seems. The whole package is better for it.
I continue to be impressed by not only Netflix's entire original catalogue, but its commitment to unique creators, and most specifically for this post, providing a platform for great standup comedy. You can find a lot of exclusive comedy, but also just a lot of good specials in general. The craft has become far more ubiquitous in the age of the internet, but Netflix helps support and promote good quality stuff in a way that YouTube or some other platform doesn't. I'm proud and more than willing to continue to pay to get stuff like Make Happy. I look forward to seeing what comes next!
Go check out both Make Happy and what both streaming right now on Netflix!
